“Work hard, earn a great living, get whatever you want out of life, have all the stuff you want. But there should be a ceiling on it-enough is enough!”
Reflecting on where I was ten years ago, I can see that I would never imagine being here. I mean, I am glad to be alive. That was a clear expectation. Yet many things have happened since.
I often look around me. I get jealous of other people now and then. Yes, I know: Bad, Mad! That is life. But that is nothing compared to me, often wanting more. Most of my life has been defined by wanting to stuff more in my growing basket. My mind's black hole is just unquenchable.
I have mainly focused on what is in it for me. Yes, I know selfishness. I mean that I have sinned from the seven deadly sins. Multiple times on multiple occasions. There is no denying that. I am not self-centered, though. I always tried to achieve a helping hand now and then. That attitude has only sometimes been a habit.
We are living in a volatile world. We are living in the boundary of a small world: our worldview. The limits of our comfort zone always constrain us. We never ask ourselves: What’s in it for them?
You have been there. I have been there. I have always been searching for ways to build my agency. I am just a big fan of the ABC agencies in the USA. Three letters sound legit. There is harmony in the trilogy. There is balance in the tripod.
I have come to build a new agency: the GCC! You see, it is in plain sight, yet under the sea. It flees when I try to seize it. Finally, I got to grasp it and blend it into the fabric of my mind.
The GCC for me is:
1. Growth,
2. Contentment,
3. Contribution.
Those are the three secret agents that I hang out with. Let me introduce you to each of them. Maybe you will fall in love with their charm. You may even invite them for a ride in your life.
1. GROWTH - Life is all about change. The universe is expanding every day. The only constant in life is change. As humans, we either shrink or grow. There is no staying the same today as yesterday.
The reason is simple. Imagine two circles. The biggest one is the universe. Your circle of life is a tiny dot in that bigger circle. Your journey is a drop into the ocean which is the universe.
Stay in your comfort zone. The universe is expanding at the speed of light. So you either grow out of your comfort zone or shrink within your limiting beliefs.
Growing can wear so many fabrics. Being aware of how much we know and being eager to learn more is having a growth mindset. Learning new things every day compounds our worldview.
Being surrounded by people from different walks of life will shed a rainbow light into your life. The mind is the parachute that will lift us from the downfall into the abysses of ignorance.
In life, there is no staying the same. We either grow, or we die.
Growing is great. Yet there is no limitless growth mindset.
2. CONTENTMENT - People have said that the key to life. Most of us die in the pursuit of happiness. We work our asses out to get to the next promotion. We starve to death to get that big house. We are chasing the next billion-dollar idea. We spend our present chasing things in the future.
If happiness is the key to life, contentment is the door to getting there. Unfortunately, we can spend our life testing the key in the wrong doors. If we are not looking for contentment, we will die starving for happiness.
Contentment can mean different things to different people. The core of contentment is to define what is enough in our relentless pursuit of more. Enough is not enough for the person that failed to define “enough.”
I am urging you to define what is enough for you today. In every pursuit of life, just sit down and write what is enough for you.
Which house is big enough for you? Which car is enough to get you from point A to point B? How much money is enough compared to the time you pay for it? How much success is enough and not detrimental to your mental health?
There is not enough in the whole universe for the person who is always hungry for more.
As long as you are not enough, your bucket will not overflow into the river of contribution.
3. CONTRIBUTION - We live in a society where it is all about “me.” I want MY house. I want MY car. I want more money for ME. I want to enjoy MY life. After all, IOLO - I Only Live Once! So you better not try to be between me and my search for MY happiness.
I want democracy for myself. I don’t mind dictatorship for others as long as it does not underline my democracy.
I want capitalism for me. I don’t mind socialism or communism for others as long as it does not hinder my hunger for individualism.
I want the planet to serve me. So I don’t mind climate change for others as long as I secure my lifestyle: a big house, shiny car, and fake smile.
We end up in a fool's house, car, and smile. We have stuff everywhere trying to fill the void inside. We always want more. We fail to be enough. We are empty no matter how much we have.
Contribution is the long-lasting currency of life. It is the only currency that yields the best interests for you, even after you leave this world. Contribution acknowledges that there is not enough to fill your growing inner universe. By giving, we learn to live with less. We see the value in feeding the shine of other souls.
We understand that we are unique, yet cut from the same cloth: the soul of humankind. We are just a fractal of the total. When we contribute to others, we are contributing to our souls. When we dim other people’s light, we dim our own at the same time.
Contribution is the ultimate force of the universe: we receive as we give.
That is the magic of the GCC. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Once their agents flash their light into your eyes, your memory is erased. But it is to make room for a more growth mindset instead of a fixed one. You will put your needs on a leash and be the rider to your contentment. You will reconnect with the universality of your singularity.
The next time you have an opportunity to meet a GCC agent, make sure to see them with an open mind.
