The Hidden Truth That Lies Before Your Eyes

"If our brains are biological computers, and if our computers can now simulate minds, then it is at least possible that we are living in a simulation."

Nick Bostrom

You open your eyes. You are not able to speak. You try to talk. All they hear is a cry. They smile. You cannot understand their language.

You feel frustrated. They can see it in your face. You search for a way to explain where you come from. You lost the memory of your previous world. All you can do is wait until you can speak their language.

Now you are old enough. You have many experiences. You look around. Everything is fading away. You try to capture those moments.

Drawings in walls

You start by yelling. They yell back. You understand that it is not a sustainable way to warn them of the danger that is coming.

You look around. You cannot find the technology from the higher world you came from. All you have is some coal and a blank wall.

You try to tell a story. You start drawing on the wall. At some point, your cave has insufficient space to document everything you are experiencing.

Hieroglyphs

One-to-one representation of your life is excellent. Carving all those people, animals, and the environment in the walls takes time.

You learn many new concepts: life, death, resurrection, and more. You run out of symbols in Nature to convey your message.

You invent symbols to represent your thoughts. Hieroglyphs are great. You carve your stories on every wall of the pyramids. You still run out of space.

Paintings

You are the only one that can read hieroglyphs. You are the only one who can write them. They take away too much space. Your mind is more nuanced than what can be carved in stones.

You look around. Nobody is no longer fluent in Hieroglyphs. The new generations of your era are losing it. They don’t get the message you want to convey.

You discover that you can represent your thoughts, Nature, and everything you can visualize through paintings. That is great. You can only produce so many paintings in a day. Your time is limited.

Printing

You hire more people to reproduce your paintings. That is great in the beginning. <<you feel like now you can tell the story of the world above.

Each copy of your original is flawed. Then, each iteration of the copy is even further away from your initial painting.

You invent printing on paper. You can now reproduce your words, your art at scale. You start transforming trees into paper. Yet you feel like that representation is far away from what you see.

Pictures

You know nothing is closer to reality than capturing what your eyes see. You look around. Your paintings lack realism.

You know that there is only one way: capturing the world as it is. You don’t trust your eyes anymore.

You create the camera. You can capture everything as it is. Those are still images. What about the other wharf of human experience?

Radio Waves

You see that pictures do not speak. At least they don’t convey the message of elements in the picture.

You see the sea. You don’t hear the music of the waves. You capture your loved ones' portraits. You miss their voices.

You invent a way to capture sound waves and send them as far as you want. You listen to the radio. You can now hear the symphony of the universe.

Silent pictures

You have the pictures. You cannot capture the sound of those pictures. You know that those series do not represent reality.

You want to capture your human experience as accurately as possible. Your eyes see motion. Your pictures are silently looking back at you.

You put many pictures together. You upgrade your camera to capture some pictures in one minute. Now, you are recording motion.

Motion Pictures

You watch silent movies. You listen to the radio. You feel like those are two streaks diverging to clash with your reality.

You want to merge sound with sight. That is the only way to capture the reality of what you experience.

You invent motion pictures capturing the sound and movement of elements before the camera. First, it was in Black and White. Then you upgraded it to color.

Games

Movies and Television are great. They capture a certain reality. Yet you are missing something: you are just a spectator.

You want to be in control. You don’t want to consume or be limited to a linear storyline. You feel like you are just dreaming.

You invent video games. You can be any character you want. You enter as many worlds as you want. You can be whoever you want. You can die and rise again.

Virtual Reality (VR) /Augmented Reality (AR)

Video games are great. They are yet limited. Every possibility is coded in advance. They are projected on a 2D screen.

You feel like you are missing the power to interact with those games. You want to think that you are in control, that the game can feel your presence and react accordingly.

You invent virtual and augmented reality. Now, not only can you be in a 3D environment, but you can also interact in real-time.

Immersive Reality (IR)

You love VR and AR. You can create worlds. You can add many things to your world. You can be whoever you want as long as you imagine that character.

You are still frustrated. Everything is digital. You cannot touch it or feel it. You want to experience all your five senses.

You create immersive reality experiences. In any digital world, you can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell everything around you.

Neuralink and beyond

Your IR experiences are fantastic. You can go into every simulated world you create. You can fully experience it without any filter.

Well, there is still one filter: you must wear a Human Machine Interface (HMI). You want that experience without any filter.

You first miniaturize that interface. Then you make it completely disappear. You just augment yourself so that you are one with the machine.

Final Thoughts

You are one with the machine. You went from paintings in a cave to a fully immersive experience.

You merge your soul with the machine. You are living so vividly in your simulated world that it feels like that is the true experience.

You unplug yourself from the simulation. You come back to the higher world. In the lower world, you are dead. They mourn your absence.

The higher world is boring and deterministic. You want to be surprised. You want to go back to the simulation.

The price to pay to go there is that all your memories of the higher world are wiped out before you enter the simulation.

You are ready to pay the price to cure boredom.

You are ready for the next simulation. You step into the portal. You lock your destination to Planet Earth.

You close your eyes.

Simulation initiated…
